There are a lot of receivers in this year's class that offer a ton of unrealized potential, and Omar Cooper Jr. is one of the best of this group. Cooper was an integral piece in the Indiana passing offense during their championship run providing an explosive element the other receivers lacked. Cooper is at his best when asked to run deep outs or catch the ball quickly near the line of scrimmage. I think he struggles to run a full route tree but the potential to be the centerpiece of an NFL passing attack is all there. Learning how to beat press man will also be important for his success in the NFL.
Cooper boasts some of the best efficiency metrics in this class, which is becoming a common theme for many of the prospects out of Indiana. His hands already grade out really well, and I think he can reach an even higher level given how many tough catches he made this past year. Similarly to many other prospects in this year's class, his age adjusted dominator rating is below average and holding back his profile as a whole. Cooper is worthy of being a first round pick in dynasty drafts, but I think his range will fluctuate a lot league to league.
Film Notes
- Tons of potential, very much in need of refinement
- Has some really long releases when forced to deal with a corner pressing him
- Had to question what type of route he was running at times
- Very dangerous with the ball in his hands, and IU took advantage of that getting him the ball in space or with blockers and numbers
- Has the ability to make other worldly catches, but will suffer from the occasional concentration drop
- Runs pretty good deep outs
- Run blocking is okay, occasionally will throw a nice block
- The hands and athleticism are all there, but the finer details of being a great receiver are lacking currently
